A BRIEF HISTORY
Originated in 1993, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class is a line of compact executive cars produced and manufactured by Daimler AG. The first C-Class model was produced on June 1st, 1993. Since then, the original model–the W202–has evolved to W205, which began production in 2014. The C-Class sedan is unique because as of 2002, four-wheel-drive options became available for select models. The C-Class model is produced Mercedes-Benz factories located in Germany and was for a considerable amount of time the smallest in its class until 1997 when the release of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class made it second smallest.
Daimler AG is a German multinational automotive corporation which owns or holds shares in all Mercedes-Benz affiliated vehicles. Daimler is the thirteenth largest automobile manufacturer in the world, merging with Chrysler in a nine-year stint that began in 1998 and ended in 2007.
Currently, Daimler AG has shown a great interest in automated cars. Among two other automotive manufacturers, Daimler AG purchased the HERE Digital Maps division from Nokia.
APPEARANCE OVER TIME
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class features an elegant compact frame design that manages to look both luxurious and sporty at the same time. Over the past ten years, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class has jumped from generation W204 to W205, which brought about many changes to the overall physical design of the vehicle.
The headlight design of the W205 is narrowed and elongated compared to that of its predecessor, implementing sharp angles that compliment its rounded frame. The W205 features new divots and ridges in its trim design that chisels its design to a fine, aerodynamic point. The Mercedes C-Class W205 possesses a certain edginess that the W2014 lacks, giving it an appearance that in some circumstances could be considered sporty rather than luxury, although the model clearly possesses both. The grille design of the W205 has been revamped as well, featuring narrowed glinting lateral slats and chrome fitted along its outside. The trademark Mercedes insignia is now mounted on the hood of the W205, vaguely discreet in its size but still domineering without question.
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class has always been known for its luxurious, compact build, which promotes premium handling capabilities and hallmark fuel economy specs. At its revelation in 2013, the W205 was revealed to have used the all-new Modular Rear Architecture Platform in its design in order to reduce its curb weight by a whopping 220-pounds. The benefits of a reduced curb weight are obvious: better handling capabilities and improved fuel economy specs. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class W205 is produced in four different chassis bodystyles: Sedan (W205), Wagon (S205), Coupe (C205), and Cabriolet (A205).
